Reference: Fitrah | Fidyah + your name.

Many of us will be busy trying to fill this month with good deeds, worship and charity. Amidst nightly Taraweeh prayers, choosing where to give our Zakat and Sadaqah and giving extra attention to the Qur’an, paying our Zakat al-Fitr can be easily forgotten.

What is fitrah?

Fitrah or Zakat Al Fitr is an obligatory charity that is distributed at the end of the Fast of Ramadan.

It is obligatory for every Muslim, to be paid on their own behalf and on behalf of their dependents (children, etc), if they have the means to do so.

Islamic Community Milli Gorus (ICMG) has decided to cap the minimum Fitrah amount at $20 for 2024. This small, but important duty on all Muslims during Ramadan denotes the obligatory payment of a handful of food to a person in need and must be paid before Eid prayer.

What is Fidyah?

Fidyah is paid by those who are unable to fast owing to illness, old age or infirmity. Fidyah consists of paying for 2 meals for a person per day of fasting missed. If you are obliged to pay Fidyah the current rate is $20.

With the Zakat & Fitr Campaign; donations are collected in a fund and distributed to the 8 classes mentioned in the Qur'an. In addition to extending aid to the oppressed, victims and refugees through the works carried out in an institutional discipline, Hasene also supports students gaining knowledge in Australia and abroad through this fund.
